Quest: a long and arduous journey undertaken by a hero, involving a challenge to be sought out, a goal to be achieved. It requires a spirit of adventure, a willingness to take risks, intelligence, courage, and persistence. Our goal as WebQuesters? Explore the questions that will not leave us alone. What does it mean to be a human being? How did we get to be the way we are? Is it possible to find any meaning for our lives? In this class our primary focus on ancient literature, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance concern literary motifs, the concept of the hero, philosophy, and the reflects the culture of the time in which the work was written.

You will select a person to research from humanities. This figure can be from the ancient times, the Medieval era (Middle Ages) or the Renaissance. If you choose a literary figure, they can be an author or a character from a particular work. Develop a monologue for this figure to present to the class. You will need to consider costuming and appropriate habits, mannerisms, etc. in order for your audience to believe they are witnessing a visitor from literary and historical fame. After the monologue, you will participate in a talk show format as your character. You may be conversing with several other characters from literary or historical fame so you will want to be amply prepared.

Other schools within the Clark County School District can request a real live "visit" from your character. Any school that has teleconferencing capability can request a "live" visit. Your performance will be videotaped and archived on this site for those schools who do not have teleconferencing capability.

This format is loosely based upon Steve Allen's "Meeting of the Minds" and also utilizes the Chautaqua format from the Nevada Humanities Committee.
